Volunteers Fix Sand Boils on Elwood Levee


Forty-five volunteers worked more than 165 hours to install the boils with sandbags. Sand boils are relish short sand volcanoes. Pressure builds up under the dirt and later pushes through the ground. They can posit a menace to a levee. However, officials say that the levees are still looking good.

"Right now, the levees are looking cogent and are unembellished all except on where the creek is at. Everything looks good. The sand boils mien good and we got lot under control," said Elwood Police Chief Larry Hunsaker.


So far, more than 363 society have signed up to volunteer in Elwood, totaling more than 1,500 hours in volunteer service.
